I actually get this from the protestors outside of my clinic (I work in a women's health clinic, we don't perform abortions but they protest us because we dispense birth control). They tell me something and then say, "god bless" but it's all very passive aggressive.
On Valentine's Day, I was putting up our promotional signs outside and one of the women said, "I hope you don't get pneumonia! God Bless!"
The way she said it, though, I received the distinct impression that she would be thrilled with me getting pneumonia. Tone of voice, inflection, facial movements, and body language DO matter.

Only when the "God bless" comes immediately after a question like: "Athiests (sic): Are you looking forward to spending eternity burning in Hell? I will be in Heaven and laughing." That's when I start getting suspicious that they don't mean those blessings...

doesnt bother me at all... the only time when a christian says something about the religion that p1sses me off is when they keep on and on...
But if they just say god bless you, at times I turn it around and say yea so does the goddess... I hear I am going to hell all the time i have learned to tune it out..

Only from the Fundamentalist/evangelical Christians. Catholics and traditional protestant denominations seem fine for the most part. It's hard to put them all in one boat. The hypocritical, self righteous, superficial fundies (that there seem so many of here) seem far removed from decent Christians...

That would make sense, kind of like the way they "love" their poor, deluded enemies. I wonder what they mean when they say "God bless America"?

Well, that means nothing to the non-believers since they think there's no hell or heaven.
They only see them as a children(believers).

Only about 20% of the time. The rest seem to be quite sincere in their hope that I, and people like me, will come to see things their way.

Depends whose saying it. If it's someone I don't like, or don't know too well, then probably. If it's my friends, I just deal with it... I'm half Christian, but I don't "god bless" people around Christmas time. I just say Happy Holidays because that covers everything.
I tell my family Happy Christmakkuh. (half jewish)
