I would go with silk. Apparently Blush4ya above has got some wonderful friends if they would make a commit about the silk petals. Sound spoiled rotten to me. Any way, silk flowers are better, for the children running around, for the facility you have the ceremonies in, and they are more cost efficient. I've done weddings and been to weddings where silk petals were used and no one said anything and the ceremonies were beautiful. They can be bought at Hobby Lobby, Micheals, Wal-Mart, most any where with a craft department. Save the real rose petals to strow all over the honeymoon bed, very romantic.

I don't have an opinion as to best (though I do like fresh petals...) but here's a tip:

*Actual rose petals will STAIN carpets after being on the carpet for the whole ceremony. Trust me; I've seen this happen, and it basically ruined their day, because the church's minister was yelling at them about the stains and 'Who's going to clean this up?' and all that. So if you are renting a hall or church for the ceremony, the best thing to do is use silk petals. If you put down something on the carpet, there's always the chance the petals will get off of that, and then it'll stain the carpet.

Watch out, because real petals are slippery and, as others have mentioned, can stain (although it seems like you mean the reception place and not the church). It's true, that close up, people could tell that they're silk. You could do silk on the floor and real on the tables, and you can probably order a lot of silk petals for a good price on ebay. Real ones could be gotten from the florist, or you could "make" them yourself from Costco or grocery store roses (or 2Groses.com) and save money.

My flower girl was given a basket of petals for her to throw, and the florist scattered white petals on the aisle. They have a ton of different silk petals, at Michaels (the craft store). I think they also have some at Walmart.

I wasn't wanting to use as many as you, so I just had fresh rose petals delivered with the rest of my flowers on my wedding day.

For that many though, it may be expensive. I'd ask your florist what the price range is and make my decision after a little comparison shopping.

i would never use silk petals, as they just end up looking cheap and tacky. and inevitably, guests will pick them up. if they're fake, someone will make a wisecrack. GUARANTEED. as for freeze-dried or fresh, it depends on how long they'll be there, if your wedding is indoors or outdoors, and how warm it is at the time. i'd say do the freeze-dried, just to be on the safe side. they'll stay fresher longer. also, if you're looking to save some $$, try going to sam's club. i know it sounds strange, but they have an enormous selection of gorgeous flowers for very reasonable prices! i hosted a party a few weeks ago and was able to fill my entire house with large bouquets for around $30. anywhere else, and it would've easily cost $2-300! oh, and rose petals stain, so be careful! why not ask a florist for a suitable replacement?

I'm doing the same thing, with silk petals (from Hobby Lobby). I've seen it done with real petals, but they end up looking so bruised and wilted before the reception is over.

Be careful and check with the location before using real petals. I heard they can stain carpets if they get stepped on. If you do go with real, I found some (sold by the bags) at www.onlinewholesaleflowers.com. That's where I will probably get all my flowers and you don't need to be a boutique to buy from them. They sell to the public!

They have silk petals at Michaels Craft Store or online. They would be the best because then they won't crumble or curl up.

I'm also using rose petals. I can tell you the sik ones are the least expensive. I ordered mine from e-bay. If you go to micheals or any craft place the'll charge you a lot more than if you buy them on bulk on ebay. trust me I had to buy 12,000. I ended paying around $200 for them. It may sound like a lot but considering they were charging $3.99 for a bag of 100 at micheals.
