Guys, have to go in to get all four wisdom teeth pulled next week, have put it off once once already caused i'm kinda worried about it being put to sleep (with gas). I asked several time not to but it has to be because there so impacted.

Has anyone ever been put to sleep for this op? Is it ok? Do you feel sleepy or just pass out with out warning? Is it a deep sleep, can your hear or feel anything? Do you dream? Does the gas smell bad? Do you feel ok when you wake up? Lots of questions but if i know whats gonna happen i'm sure i'll be grand! I suppose its a bit odd to worry about the anesthetic but not the actual teeth removal

I had mine taken out when I was 24 because they were impacted. I fell asleep almost instantly, when I woke up the procedure was done. I didn't remember a bit of it. The only bad thing was afterwards. Your mouth is numb from the Novocaine for several hours afterwards, and they will give you a prescription pain killers for the minor pain that you have. After a couple of weeks, the pain subsides. I can't remember what they prescribed, I think it was something akin to Demerol.

It rather depends on the difficulty of getting the teeth out. I was told that I would need a general if my wisdom teeth were removed because they would need to dislocate and maybe break my jaw as it's rather narrow and some of the teeth are impacted. However, I never had it done and that was over 20 years ago, and dentistry has improved a great deal. Better that you just ask your dentist. A general carries some serious risks that a local doesn't and it's usually the pain afterwards that's the real problem.

2 weeks ago I got 2 wisdom teeth out. Next Thursday I am getting the other 2 out. I had a local anesthetic and I didn't feel a thing. The bad part comes the next day...it will swell and it feels like u have a tennis ball in your mouth. Nothing to worry, it will die down after 24 hours. Just remember to follow the doctor's advice. The reason I chose to get 2 out at a time was that it's rather unpleasant not to be able to eat hard foods for at least 5 days, and the swelling. Even with a local anesthetic u will only feel when the doc tries to pull out the teeth, u can also here some cracking.
I had general anesthetic when I god my appendix out. I just got an IV line and fell asleep. I woke up 25 min later and I don't remember anything. Chances are u won't either.
Best of luck to you. The key to success is to stay strong!

Ok I had all four pulled at once, and I didnt get the gas, I got IV administered full anethesia. It was fine. I was a little worried cause when I went under for knee surgery I felt tlike *** after. But this was less than an hour, and I only felt a little dissorientated. I cant tell you about the gas, but Im sure it smells fine. The IV only burned a little when I had it done for my knee, and when they did my teeth, I was right out cause they put it in a bigger vien in my arm, not my hand. You shouldnt feel or remember a thing. And I've never dreamed. It'll be like you blink and its all over.

I went under almost immediately, and I remembered nothing. Afterward, I did throw up when I started waking up, but for me that is pretty much normal for any kind of anesthetic, even if they give me anti-nausea stuff. This is the thing that worried me the most - throwing up afterward. Then I was taken home, I went to sleep, and was back at work two days later. I had very little swelling, etc, the pain was managable, did not have any issues with dry socket.

General anesthetic is not a bad thing in the case of impacted wisdom teeth. Iam not sure if you held off the procedure from fear of the gas or the extractions. Coming from someone who had 4 pulled in one sitting... all severely impacted (roots were like little tusks and had crossed each other) and were positioned so diffiult that extraction would be performed by severing roots from tooth first. Did I want too take any chance hearing this or seeing this.... HE** NO!! If this was the method your doctor stated he/she would be using, "TRUST THEM"...they know what's best.

p.s. General anesthetic in gas form is not the same as laughing gas. G.A. knocks you out cold...laughing gas/ nitrous oxide only relaxes you... you are awake!!

I had three wisdom teeth pulled using only xylocaine (mistakenly called novocaine by most people) and a little nitrous oxide. I didn't feel a thing until the xylocaine wore off 5 hours laer. I can't imagine needing to use general anesthesia for this procedure. I felt absolutely no pain during the three extractions, but it hurt like hell later in the day.

I've had teeth pulled being awake, with gas, and also being put to sleep. From personal experience, I wouldn't hesitate to be put to sleep again if I needed anymore teeth extracted. I prefer to have no knowledge of anything dental related, especially if it has the potential for pain.

I had actually five wisdom teeth pulled and I was gassed. I don't recall a thing from the start of counting backwards to them bringing me out of it 45 minutes later. Not one single thing do I remember. I couldn't tell you if I dreamed, if I snored (that'd be kinda weird while they're yanking teeth out). I don't think the gas even smelled. I remember feeling fine when I woke up, except I had difficulty trying to talk and was trying to talk a mile a minute (kinda like I do after a few drinks). I do recall wanting a Frosty right away.

Don't worry about it...you'll be fine! I actually quit taking the pain pills later that day (more so because they were making me sick to my stomach and I'd rather be in pain than nauseous).

When I had all 4 of my impacted wisdom teeth removed I did not get gassed- I wanted it but the dentist refused, it was on the verge of traumatizing.
However I just recently had several fillings done and they gassed me. I was wide awake sucking in gas like a mad woman, but now I know why it's sometimes called "laughing gas". I kept trying to crack jokes and laugh, my mind was racing with all sorts of funny thoughts. Maybe I'm just mental and have a very high tolerance.
Having dental work always sucks, but unless you want a life of pain and or dentures you deal with it. Good luck, you'll be fine.
