First off, need to diagnose the cause ( poor circulation, kidney failure, too much salt intake?) Definately elevating the extremeties ( i'm assumin you are speaking of edema in the feet or legs). Usually diuretics ( prescribed by your dr, who is aware of what pre-exsisting medical conditions, because that will determine what kind of diuretic) and sometimes wrapping the feet or legs with an ace bandage ( again, with the approval of your dr.)

You need to see a doctor for a diuretic. You can get some relief by keeping the part with pitting edema elevated above the level of your heart.

Pitting edema is a sign of something else.
You should work with your doctor to find out why this is happening and what to do about it.
Good luck.

Do you know what is causing the edema? Is it heart related? Fluorisamide may help or another type of diuretic.

Wear support hose with a graduated tightness. You can buy these at medical supply stores or sometimes drug stores. Keep the feet elevated, do not sit at a desk for long periods of time. Avoid too much sodium. Discuss the problem with your doctor to make sure there is no underlying heart problems.

Your best bet is to go to a dermatologist. Amateur guessing and home remedies shouldn't be used because of their failure to work and possibly being more damaging.
