You should be covering most of this in your monthly workshops with an assessor/tutor.The main bulk of the work you should have to do in your own time are your reflective accounts. These are the write-ups of you own personal experiences with service users/patients that will cover the required criteria for that unit, and they have to be written on NVQ reflective account paper in the past tense. You write them as a description of what you did. (Write in rough first) You should have your own assessor whom you can contact if you have any problems and she will arrange to meet you somewhere. It is a very enjoyable qualification to work on, and it should take you 6-9 months.

I've done an NVQ (level 3), and the only person in my group who actually finished it (I think)!
When you first start collating your material, it can seem daunting. You need to make sure it is properly researched and referenced, otherwise you will be asked to go away and do more work on the unit.
Continue to collect as much evidence (photos, diagrams, written testimonials, anything as long as it is relevant!) as you can by doing the practical work necessary and getting someone to witness it. Health and Safety is difficult to collect evidence for but in order to get credit for the unit you have do do it somehow! With NVQs, though you will be able to get some practical help at your workplace. Check with your supervisor. For example, what Health and Safety procedures do they have? Follow these guidelines, and you won't go wrong.
Obviously, if you have a problem understanding how NVQs are assessed, you need to get more advice from your assessors.
