I had that problem with both my kids- I sent the to bed with a bottle every night. Then my doctor got real upset at me and told me I needed to stop. So, what worked for me is when I brought in a toddler bed and got rid of the crib I told them that bottles are for babies in cribs, and big kids go in a bed with no bottles. Surprisingly it worked, I think they were so excited about getting a new big kid bed ( with new blankets and sheets ) they didn't even want their bottles. I had to change my routine though, instead of just giving them a bottle and leaving the room- now we brush teeth, read books and go to bed. It has been 3 months now, bottle free!!! oh yeah I made sure all the bottles were out of the house also to make sure they didn't see them and want one-- and to prevent me from giving one to them. well good luck :)

I agree with Jill, you've waited way too long to try to transition, you need to just get rid of them all at once. Your child is going to be mad and cry for a few days, but when he gets thirsty he'll take the cup. Use sippy cups at first, then try a real cup once in a while. And also, he should not be drinking anything at bed time except a little water. His teeth should be brushed before bed time with no more milk or juice after that. This is the age to teach good oral hygeine, and it needs to be a daily activity. Good luck, it's going to be tough but if you stick with it, it may not take near as long to get him used to the big boy stuff as you think. My daughter will also be two in May and she does very well with new things because she loves to feel like a big girl.

My daughter lost interest in the bottle around the time she turned one. So, I may have just gotten lucky here. But try giving him a sippie cup that closely resembles a bottle, and slowly move toward more "glass-shaped" cups with straws. He's old enough to be able to recognize what's in it, and will do what he's got to do to get it out. If he looks at the cup and refuses to associate with it, leave him alone with it. It may sound mean, but, if he wants his milk he will drink it however you give it to him.

Put juice in the cup and let him know that if he wants juice then he should drink it out of the cup. And dont let him go to sleep with a bottle especially with milk it causes bottle rot. They will throw a fit but you have to be stern. I had to do that with my daughter but unfortunately my husband didnt believe me about bottle rot and he would get up in the middle of the night and give her milk and juice and her two front teeth are now gone because of bottle rot. Good luck!

At this point it is too late to transition him--he will resist. Take the bottle away, throw them all out. Offer him a cup or sippy cup and eventually he will drink it. It will be hard for a few days but it really must be done.

He is getting of age, and I suggest getting rid of all bottles. Start telling him bottles is for baby. Let him know the difference from a little boy and baby. If you get rid of all the bottles in your house, than he will have no choice but to accept a sippy cup.

oh
it's going to be hard now you should have taken it away at 12 months or earlier
with Easter coming up(if you celebrate it?) try leaving for the Easter bunny to take and in exchange he will leave some treats
