One morning 3 weeks ago my daughter, 8 years old, woke with vomiting and diarrhea. She was competely fine by that afternoon. One week later, exact same thing. At this time, we were a bit alarmed but she recovered quickly and was fine. Then, this past Sunday morning (two weeks after last episode), she woke with the same symptoms. We then called the "after hours" doctor and she basically said that it may be three separate virus' and left it at that. This was not a good enough answer for us, so we brought her in to the pediatrician yesterday. We are now running tests of urine, stool, blood. My daughter seemed fine yesterday (Monday) but was complaining of a stomach ache before school this morning. This could be nerves, as she tends to be a bit melodramatic. Hard to tell, she is worried about "having a sickness". She stayed home today but no vomitting so far. I realize that there could be various causes but wondering if anyone has a similiar experience to share?

This really does sound a lot like virus. Or may be something is not right with the school cafeteria?

Have you checked any peanut butter in your house recently? Peter Pan just had a recall for certain code numbers that the peanut butter contained salmonila. Aside from that, has your daughter been around anyone with the same symptoms?( either at school or at home?) It is possible to have a virus, and not completely gotten over it and get sick again.

My son had this exact problem, and I narrowed it down to what I think it was.
I noticed that whenever he would buy his luch from the school cafeteria, he would throw up, around 4am the next morning. I usually pack him a home-made lunch, but there are occasions, when we're running late, and I would give him money to buy a lunch at school. I could be way, off concerning your daughter, but this is what I noticed with my son.
I think the food at the cafeteria, is not kept at proper temp's, and it makes him sick.
Just an idea, good Luck

This sounds like the novovirus that has been circulating the country for the past few months. Members of my family have had it a few times, and my colleagues have had it repeatedly. You are definitely doing the right thing by having your daughter under the care of a physician. Keep her hydrated (Gatorade and popsicles!) and wait for the test results. Hopefully this, too, shall pass. Best wishes.

Like you said, could be nerves because now she thinks something is wrong.I would also consider food allergies and/or toxic mold in the home, even if no one else seams sick. Sometimes kids are more suseptible to things we don't even think about.Could also be trouble at school.
