Great Idea! I hate it when I open it and it flies all over the counter and all inside the box! There should be some kind of better system!

It would cost too much (defined as spending anything more than they *have* to), and they probably do appreciate that the cereal will need to be replaced if added steps aren't taken to keep it fresh after opening.

A couple of things I *especially* hate though (and these could be fixed much more easily) are that:
...many manufacturers make the glue of the waxed bags so incredibly strong that the bag rips when it's (finally) opened; then it needs to be taped back together...grrrr.
... the unglued area at the top for grabbing onto is so #&^%! short from some manufacturers that it's almost impossible to hold onto while opening (especially for anyone a bit older because finger*tip* strength grows weaker with age, or for those with physical difficulties) ... if they can be opened, they often rip in the process
. . . or BOTH.

That's just extremely poor design (probably created by young male engineers with the fingertip strength of a pair of vice grips), or it's shooting themselves in the foot because the majority of the population (and their potential customers) are getting older every day, etc., and customer care will continue to be just a slogan.

Re the staleness thing, I always fold my bags over 2-3 times after opening then hold closed with a short plastic bar clip.... the contents never get stale that way, and since I don't close the box top itself afterward it's easy to get to the cereal too.

P.S. Thanks for giving me the chance to get that off my chest too! Most industrial design could be so much better ergonomically, etc., that it's truly maddening. . .

Because that would make the cereal last longer after opening, by keeping it fresher. The cereal companies want you to eat up the cereal and then buy some more, or throw away the stale cereal and buy some more. If you can keep it fresh for a longer period of time, then you buy less, which isn't good for them.

I LOVE this question. I get so irritated at stale cereal because you can't really seal in the freshness in those waxy inside bags. I totally think they should come with ziplock bags inside. I for one would pay the extra 5 cents it would take to switch to ziplocs. GO ZIPLOCS CEREAL BAGS!! YEAH!

I don't know why, but they should! I always cut the bag open, and after use, fold it, and seal it with a clothes peg, to keep it fresh. I have lived in certain countries where bugs long to get inside open cereal boxes, and this method has always kept them out! Perhaps someone at Kellogg's will read this and respond. (Pigs might fly)!

Wow, that's a great question. I'd say you could make quite a bit of money with that idea!!! However, I'm gonna agree with what someone said earlier. The manufacture wants the product to eventually go stale which means their is always a demand for the product... and of course we all know that demand=profit

What a pain that would be trying to reach into the box to ziplock it.

I put mine in the refrigerator and that keeps it from getting stale. What happened to the toys that used to be in the cereal boxes?

Yea, really! Every other product is in a zip lock bag practically!! It definetely would be nice because they go stale so quickly!
Why don't you call them and ask. Maybe there is a good reason.
