MYTH - If you swallow chewing gum, it takes seven years to digest.
TRUTH - It passes through the digestive system in a few days. Chewing gum is composed of five basic ingredients, four of which dissolve in your mouth - flavor, sweeteners, syrups and softeners. If you swallow the remaining gum base, it passes like roughage.

I was always told it would stick to your innards but I didn't believe it and swallowed tons of chewing gum as a child. It certainly didn't do me any harm.

my mum told me it makes your bones stick together. obviously that is physically impossible. its because your body can't digest it. its hard enough trying to swallow it on purpose coz it doesn't get broken down by your teeth.

There are two reasons. ONE: There is a chance that the gum can get stuck in your throat and you can suffocate. TWO: Gum is basically plastic. Do you swallow plastic? Your body canno digest it but will try and this is not good for you at all.

It is very difficult to digest because of it's undisolvable consistency. It means you produce lots of stomach acid to break it down which can cause ulcers etc. It can't be absorbed at all. It's not great for you to eat!
