If you are thinking do my inside dogs prey on critters outside - Your damn skippy they get all excited. The love kitties in the house but being outside is a different ballgame and they are up to bat.

Some breeds are inherently bred to be predators. Terriers were bred to hunt and kill small vermin (mice, rats, etc) and often this breed function shines through even in Terriers that have not been trained to do so. If a Greyhound is off-lead (which is a VERY bad idea, by the way) and it sees a smaller animal, it most likely will stalk and attack it. Greyhounds are sight hounds (meaning they use their vision to track prey) and are very predatory.
Many other types of dogs will, if given the chance, attack and even kill another small animal. It all depends on their training and/or breed function.
If you're wondering about your dog, specifically, go to www.akc.org and read-up on your breed. Its history and breed function may let you in on a lot of secrets about your dog that you may not have known before! If your dog is a mixed breed, read up on the different breeds he is mixed with.
