I am thinking of going there in September, but would rather go at a time when places are open, and everything is alive.

The official dates are:
September 12, 2007 thru October 11, 2007.
Although it is something that is highly observed there are many people in Turkey who do not fast. So the shops will stay open. They may not be exactly AS alive but they still will.
If you are in a more observant city such as Konya or Erzurum then most of the shops will be closed.
If you are in a more touristic or bigger city the won't close, especially, Izmir, Antalya, and Istanbul.

Also because of the tourist many of the restruants will stay open.
And if you have friends here or make friends, during that Ramadan time you can be sure that you will eat (once the sun sets) like you NEVER have before.

As a foreigner living in Turkey I personally would suggest Late August to mid september for visit, for weather, ramadan, and and touristic reasons.

but have fun and good luck!

Fasting month is 13 or 12 September 2007.

And when you get there during the month, all the shops are mostly opened and tourists are welcomed to enjoy the food in the day time. But as you know 99% of Turkish people are Muslims, they fast, and you wont get to see lively, crowded restaurants in the day time. You will see them eating after the sunset.

Fasting month is for 30 days. After that, is Eid Mubarrak where all the Muslims celebrate. On that day, almost all shops will be closed.

Enjoy Turkey! Turkey is really a great place to go to. You wont regret. I love it!

Turkey doesnt close down because there fasting all tourist resorts are open and as livly as ever they also still serve food to you all day and many of them do not participate as the working hours are too long during summer to do so,but the ones who do participate dont mind you eating and them not. at the end of the day its there belief to do so.the turkish are extremely friendly and accepting to other cultures and religion you may be suprised and its the best time to visit a diffrent culture if thats what you like doing as its very interesting observing the ones who fast and finding out why and what celebrations they have etc..
If you want to go in september carry on theres nothing stopping you not even ramadan

September is a great time to come, not too hot like July and August.Ramazan makes no difference to tourists and many Turks dont observe it in resorts apart from a loud bang every evening to let everyone know it is okay to eat you wont really be bothered.

Ramadan starts everywhere it is observed on September 12, and ends October 11, 2007.

(The only reason I keep track is so I avoid my favorite Mediterranean buffet at night during that time... let's just say that the locals (Houston's Muslim community) can get rude and pushy)

Salam optimal (now no longer some)muslim people grow to be very religious for the era of ramadan via truth (a million)ramadan is one in each of four holy months in Islamic calendar (2)for the era of ramadan we've mandotory fasting an entire month once you concentration on that fajr time as a lot as maghrib (3)for the era of ramadan we've sunnah yet nearing fard of taraweh prayer at evening after isha time for a minimum of 11 raka'ats shield witr of three raka'ats (4)for the era of ramadan lets continuously do better reliable deeds such as reciting the Qur'an on a regularly occurring foundation and evening on the mosque and dzikir and lets continuously stay sparkling of undesirable doings(5) for the era of ramadan on the first 10 days we will be blessed via creating use of Allah and via creating use of the 2d 10 days we will be forgiven via creating use of Allah (6)over the merely accurate 10 days we are in a position to have lailatul qadar that is higher than 1000 months and we will be sinless . lets continuously submit to in ideas that optimal persons have many sins and probable we've better effective than others so we coiuld now no longer be hypocrisy. lets continuously have a stability existence between dunya events and akheerat events.Muhammad pbuh stated that lets continuously use the 24 hours an afternoon 8 hours for dunya events (operating and or examining),8 hours for resting and slumbering and eight hours for religious/religious events.
