You might get roaming charges while in international waters, but when I was on Oahu, I had no extra charges.

I went on a Caribbean cruise and my cell phone had no service while out to sea. When we arrived in Mexico it got a few bars on the screen, but instead of Cingular it said Tele-Mex. I got some service when we were close to oil rigs in the gulf. I did not dare use it, but to this day I still get text messages in Spanish sent to my phone on a regular basis, lucky I have free text messaging. That said, it is my understanding that some ships are starting to have satelites that allow people to use their cell phones onboard also I am not sure how close to the land Hawaiian cruises are. So my answer is maybe.

I believe that as long as you are within range of a cell signal you can use your cell phone just fine. You will be on what is called a North American Dialing plan number. Just to make sure, check with your cruise company.

you should be okay if you have free roaming, provided you are within range of a signal. if you don't have free roaming ~ DON'T DO IT! i have cingular and didn't realize until it was too late that i didn't have a nationwide plan. several hundred dollars later, i switched plans.

You can use your cell phone no problem but you'll have to deal with roaming charges.

But it won't be free.
