I realise it may appear to be a strange question. I am only asking because the vedic texts encourage wrestlers and "bodybuilders" to worship hanuman.

Also because the ancient vedic civilisation appeared to be very sophisticated at fitness and sports.

For body builders Shri Hanumanji may be worth worshipping due to his strength and powers

But we would really underestimate Him, if we just appreciate his body.

He is a great Bhakta, a devoted lover of God, a great Gyani too besides being powerful

Hanumanji is a perfect example of a Purna Sadhaka

Hanuman known for his great bodily strength, is the son of Vayu and Anjana and a great devotee of Lord Ramachandra. Hanuman's younger brother is Bhimasena of famed Mahabharata, who is also known for great bodily sterngth like Hanuman. Hanuman is also said to have appeared as Sri Madhvacharya who killed a tiger with his bare hands and thus protected his disciple Satya Tirtha.

Though Hanuman is known to be famous for his bodily strength, he appeared in Treta Yuga and prior to him people were also as powerful as Hanuman in the previous Satya yuga. The Vedas give the knowledge of everything, including material and spiritual knowledge. The bodily strength is to do with material knowledge and knowledge of spirit soul, God and relationship with God is spiritual knowledge. So it can be said that Vedas are the founder of Bodybuilding.

Lifting a mountain? Yep, sounds about right. I actually never realized it before, but in many of the paintings I've seen of Hanuman, he is ripped!

Hanuman is created in Ramayana during Lord Rama's period, who brought a whole mountain in his single palm while flying yet could not save his Lord's Goddess wife from being molested. Was he ever existed or referred to in any Veda?
