Some updates do need to be done separately. If that is the case it will tell you. No need to do them individually unless it says so.

microsoft is the company....windows is the program

if you have additional software from microsoft such as the office suite...that gets updated seperately but windows is just http://www.windowsupdate.com

Either use WSUS or do each individually.
