The only wedding I have actually been to where butterflies were released was a disaster. The couple had their gustbook attendants hand out packets of butterflies (without revealing what was inside) which the men stuffed into their pockets (killing the poor butterflies). The bride and groom weren't even speaking by the end of the wedding. A lot of stress factors there.

I think it would be beautiful! But research what kinds of butterflies are native to your area so that you are not releasing a foreign 'breed'. That could have a big impact on the ecology of the area- and usually, if I remember right, you have to get butterflies in their cocoon (or whatever it is called). Idon't know how long they would stay around the reception for photos...
You will need to do a fair bit of research to do it right, but I think it's a great idea- good luck, and congratulations!

Sounds beautiful and original...but where would you get all the butterflies? Also, you might get criticized for cruelty because you know that if you touch the wings of the butterfly it can no longer fly, right? Still, if you can find a way to do it without hurting the fly, I bet it will look pretty.

we did a butterfly release at the end of our beach wedding. It was very nice. It went fast and we had our family members open the butterfly boxes. It would have been nicer if we had them close to us. The butterflies move fast and in the pictures they look like black specks.

This is an awesome idea and the pictures would be great! I would research the best butterfly to use in you area, the monarch has a huge range of flight and may be the best butterfly to let go.

I have heard of this beign done and yes it would be pretty but here are the issues:
You must keep them at cool temps until the day of meaning packing the box with ice so they dont over heat and die.
you must remove the box from ice about 3-4 hours prior so the can "thaw" otehrwsie you run the risk of having sleeping butterflies.
They can be very tempermental and Im not usre if that is something you wnat to deal with on your wedding day.

They are beautiful...but the two wedding I have been to that did that had major problems. Both times the butterflies were all dead:( Instead of bubbles, my one girlfriend handed out these little envelopes and when you open the envelope, the butterfly was supposed to fly out. When the bride & groom came out of the church, everyone opened their envelopes and none of the butterflies flew!!!
They are expensive too!!

i could drape yards of rather fabrics on the walls like curtains and some how connect wallet of colourful origami butterflies in a swirl trend like they are being released or something. perhaps pick flora that are familiar to attraction to butterflies and get origami butterflies to attach along with your bouquet. you do not favor to over-do the butterfly issue. some could be rather, yet butterflies everywhere you look is a touch tacky and juvenile.

Sounds expensive. Plus, a lot of them might end up getting killed or you will never be able to retrieve them again. You would have to have a crap load of butterflies for them to even make a difference. If I were you I wouldn't waste the money.
