if you are painting a kitchen and you have custom made paint and its a kitchen paint finish...um,, the cabinets when we moved in already had this awful white glossy paint on them.... am i saposed to remove that first use terpintine or can i just paint right over top of it... im using a terricotta color. I just wasnt sure if we are to remove the old paint first ((( i hope not))

You can but may find that this may not stick or seeps through. if so just sand down and re-coat. If it is oil based it should be ok or buy a multi primer and put on first. You can get one that goes on easily by putting on a cloth and just wiping over surface.

Not necessarily. First determine whether the cabinets were originally painted with latex paint by dabbing on some mineral spirits. If it is originally painted with latex, you can de-gloss the paint with Paseo or Liquid Sand to give the base (the old paint) tooth for the new paint to adhere to. If you are not certain, you can prime the cupboards first with Zinser the brown label that works for both oil and latex paints.

I prime cabinets with Cover Stain by Zinzer tinted to match. This insures proper adhesion and provides a good base coat for the new finish

use sandpaper to roughen the gloss finish before you add another color. That will also smooth out any runs from the previous paint job.
