I think the bridesmaids usually buy their own....although the dresses I picked out were more expensive than most so i paid for 1/2 of everyone's dress...I didn't expect to be paid back, but I certainly wouldn't have turned it down!

The bridesmaid buys and the bride picks out the dress.

I have heard of Brides, who can afford it, to buy the bridesmaids dresses for them. But, usually the bridesmaids buy their own dresses, shoes and even other accessories that you want them to where. The brides doesn't have to pay for any part of the bridesmaids being in the wedding. Although usually the bride will buy the girls jewelry or pay for their hair to be done or something like that as a thank you gift for being in their wedding.

It's usually the bridesmaids. But if they cant afford it...maybe they can work out something with the bride..

With my friends and family the bride definately buys the dresses but if you can't afford it then I guess ask your bridesmaids to buy their own...

The bridesmaids pay for the dresses. That's why you ask them to be in the wedding. If they cannot financially pay for it, they need to let the bride know before purchasing the dresses.

I have heard that the bride does pay for them.... BUT, I have been in 6 weddings have bought my own each time. So, I think it more common for bridesmaids to pay for their own dress/shoes/etc.

I think traditionally the bridesmaid's are responsible for buying them. However, with our wedding we did it differently. A lot of our friends were in college and didn't have a lot of money. So we saved for another year and we were able to pay for the dresses and tuxes, for everyone. I don't think it's right that we were asking someone to be in OUR wedding and if they want to be in it, they have to pay their own... isn't right. We felt better about this in the end.

The bridesmaids pay for their own dresses unless the bride offers to pay for them. :)
