An extremely good question! Technically you cannot inherit a psychological problem because they are as you say a result of life experiences and your reactions to events. Depression is slighly different in that this can be an organic illness although rare, it is usually the same as above. However, I have been involved in working with people with Mental Health problems for many years, so I stopped and thought about the question. In the sense that patterns are repeated, cycles of poverty for example, abusive relationships of the parents visited on the kids, the results of parents behaviour being copied by very young children, although there is no genetic link, in some cases there might as well be. It is worth remembering that we are intelligent apes and when young we learn by mimicking behaviour. Makes you think. Good one.

Yes it's proven that depression, anxiety and any disorder is hereditary. I know I got everything my mother had, and if they had the treatments 25 years ago that they do now she would not died of depression at 53 years old. I am 50 and have been through it all, I am now stable I take my anti-depressant and small amount of xanax a day and can actually be me again. I worried for long I'd end up like my mom I almost had a breakdown. Every Dr. or Therapist I have ever spoke to has said it is hereditary

it's a bit of both. There is a genetic component to depression, but living with depressed parents will result in learned behaviors that predispose to acquiring the problem.

I think that we learn by example. When we are very young, our minds are like sponges, soaking in every type of stimuli around us. If we are around overly anxious parents, we tend to be the same way as adults, unless we are educated and re-conditioned to act differently.

You not in any respect heard George W. Bush whinge about inheriting a recession from invoice Clinton. The comparison is merely magnificent. It makes it sparkling to work out that we had a guy of personality as president in George W Bush, and now we merely have someone who places blame and makes excuses.

Some are definatly inherited while others are caused from environment. I think it really depends on the individual problem.
