i am not sure if it depends on what version you have of Microsoft Word, but I have 2003, and if you click on the Help menu, there is an option of 'Microsoft Office Word Help'. It should bring up a pane, to the side of your screen. If it does, then you can click on the top of that pane (where it says 'Word Help') and a drop down menu will appear, click on 'Getting Started' option.

if you want it to appear every time you start Microsoft Word, go to the 'Tools' drop down menu, click on 'options'. then there is a tab labeled 'View'. check the box that says 'startup task pane'. click 'ok' button at bottom... should be set!

hope that helps you!
