not true. many breeders have these removed at an early age. however, current studies into the physical movement of dogs indicates that removal may not be the best idea.

some breed standards actually call for a dew claw such as the beauceron which actually has a double dew claw.

most breeders will remove the dew claws but not all dogs are born with them. I have been breeding/showing etc and some of my pups have been born without front and back dewclaws. alot of people who breed will not have them removed, but in my opinion its better to get it done as most buyers appreciate it . also i work in a shelter and have had several dogs come in with the dew claws intact that needed them removed as they were infected etc. but again its is usually a choice for breeder or owner*

No it's not true. My Chihuahua is a purebred and he has his dew claws. We had to get them removed because he kept getting them caught on something and breaking his nail. My Chihuahua pup that I am getting I know for a fact is a purebred and from looking at the pics he has his dew claws too. Looks like I am gonna have to get those removed for safety precautions.

Pure bred dogs are born with dew claws. The breeder may deside to remove them, but all pure bred dogs are born with them.

I have pure bred malteese, and a papillion! Both have dew claws! The breeder can have them took out, or the owner, when the puppies are born!

No. Some breed standards demand them. For example, Beauceron and Norwegian Lundehund must have dew claws.

All dogs are born with dew claws. Breeder usually have them removed to avoid them getting torn and causing serious injury.

Most purebred dogs do not have them, and very few mixed breeds don't have them either. It's all a matter of how they were vetted when they were born.

All dogs are born with dew claws it's just that some breeders chop them off shortly after birth.

Almost all dogs are born with these. Most on their front paws but some on their back, also. Most dogs do fine w/ them intact. Some people choose to remove them b/c they tend to get in the way and/ or snag. I think it depends on the breed as to whether or not it's "desired" for them to have them. I have a pure breed (Pug) and his were removed when he was a puppy.
