Im 17 yrs old but my mom keeps treating me as if im 12 or 13. She's always talking about the clothes i wear (mind you im 17 and i wear what ne normal 17 yr old girl would wear low cut shirts, mini skirts etc.) I've tried sitting down and talking 2 her but its hopeless. she also wont let me get a job or my permit and when i ask her why she simply responds "bcuz i said so". Now our family is having a reunion in a few months at a water park and i've asked for a 2 piece swim suit and she flipped out on me. I told her 2 4get it and i would buy it 4 myself and she replied "im telling ur father or ur older brother and cousins wouldnt like u in that" (& not 2 be rude but none of the 3 above do a damn thing 4 me...seriously!!) Im confused... i do the house work, my grades are good in school what more can i possibly do? I want to just buy the thing myself since she wont for me but i dont want her to lose her trust in me.Should i buy the swim suit myself or pick something else out?
Plz help me

While you may find her to be more smothering, than mothering, one way to show her your maturity is to try to see things from her point of view. You're still a teenager, and she's hoping to protect you for a little while longer. Mini skirts might be the fashion, but they can appear skanky. Maybe tone it down some and dress more like a grown woman, rather than a young teen. As for the swimsuit- a one-piece is going to be much more comfortable at a water park if you plan on being active. If you turn around and agree to the modest suit, she might be surprised.
As for working- it's kind of nice to be able to devote your time to your studies right now. Maybe she'll allow you to volunteer somewhere or "work" for a charity. You might be able to join some clubs at school, too. Good luck.

i know you u r 17, you should be able to have some freedom. your mom does love you, she might be afraid your growing up. don't let your anger get the better of you, don't lose the trust. you are almost 18. so for now let it be her way, enjoy yourself at the Reunion it's only one day. 18 will come soon enough. you sound like a great daughter, your mom is very lucky.

I would say to pick something else out. Although you aren't a little girl anymore, you are still living under her roof. When you go off to college or move out, wear what you want. Until then you just have to deal with it. 18 is right around the corner.
