I would use a cloth mattress cover under a plastic mattress cover for the bed. Similar with the pillows, and I would use foam pillows, not feather/down. I would also change his sheets daily and run his blankets/comforters through a hot dryer each day to kill off the mites and get the dust out. Keep the floors and furniture as dust-free as possible, and remove stuffed animals and books from his room.
Good luck.

There are special covers to use for dust mites. Forget what they're called. Just make sure you can buy stuff that you can wash hot - to kill the mites. Also be careful if you're buying down stuff - could be allergic to the feathers also.

Yes, a matress cover is a good idea.

You will want to be careful about fuzzy blankets anyway. And washing more won't hurt.

Good luck!
