I run a lot and I dont pay any attention to my feet striking the ground and breathing and I don't get stitches. The only breathing advice that is really relevant is to breath in through your nose and out through your mouth.
The most common cause is impropder hydration, either too much or too little. You want to drink 8-16 ounces of water between 2 and 1 hour before your workout.
Sometimes it's just a result of being out of shape and you just have to suck it up and run through it.

a stich is a cramp in your diaphram (the muscle that helps the lungs work)
stiches are usually caused by improper breathing during running
most people breathe in and out when the same foot hits the ground - in other words, you breathe in as the right foot hits the ground and then 2 or 4 steps later, you breathe out as the right foot hits the ground again
this person will get a stitch on the left side if they get one at all
to get rid of the stitch, this person needs to make themselves breathe in and out on the left foot (make yourself breathe on the same foot as the side where the stitch is)
in my experience, this will get rid of the stitch about 90% of the time

i run xc and spring track for my high school and sometimes i get really bad stitches in my stomach... something that will help you not get stiches in your side is to do some crunches before a workout or race and make sure you don't miss your obliques (do side crunches as well) i have no idea why but my entire team finds that this helps greatly
