Its about $285 for a mechanical/accidental 2 year warranty. I know i wont break or drop it myself. As for mechanical, stuff doesnt go wrong with it until after 2 years. So is the warranty a rip off?

ALWAYS get the warranty on your electronics, especially things that are not cheap such as computers and other hardware. Even though it seems that you never have a problem until it expires, there is always the chance that something will happen and if you dont have it warranteed then you are out of luck entirely. ESPECIALLY with a computer, it IS worth the extra money to have the peace of mind and know you are covered if you need it!!

Yes, the warranty is a rip-off.
Almost all manufacturers have a 90 day warranty built into the original price of the computer. Most major defects will show up
within that time, and they will repair them. You only have to pay to ship the computer to them.
After 90 days, Anything you have done to screw up the computer is probably not covered under the expensive warranty anyway. Your best bet is to ask around and find somebody local who is trustworthy to look at it.
As a last resort, take the laptop to Best Buy and let them look at it.
Remember, at the rate computers are improving - the laptop you buy will be obsolete before you get to the parking lot :)
Buying a warranty for it is not cost effective.

For a laptop, in my opinion Yes, get the warranty. You plan on keeping it for at least 2 years, so yes get the warranty.

Every laptop I have had has crapped out on me at the 1year mark. Always something different..(3 so far)

The next time I make a laptop purchase, im going to get a 2 year warranty.

my thumb rule is: if it contains parts that are continuosly working for hours, buy one.
if it has parts that are big enough to not have maintenance very ofter, consider.

Most of the time, the warranty will cost you $0 at the end of the contract, just make sure you take advantage of it...
