I think buffet is better because it gives people more option of what to eat. not everyone will like the food at a sit down dinner. not I know if its your wedding its up to you, but if your paying for a plate for someone and they arent eating anything because they dont like the food then it was such a waste. my mom made the food at my wedding and it was great and everyone loved it because there was so much to choose from. I went to 1 sit down meal and I can honestly say I didnt like it much at all. luckly the bride and groom ordered pizzas around midnight when they cut the cake so alot of people ate then. its up to you though.

if you do go with sit down then make sure there is enough choice fomr people who dont eat meat. you dont want them stuck with just beans and a salad.

I think it all about your preference. Personally, I can not stand buffets, I feel like a farm animal lining up for my vittles. Prefer sit down, where I am served my food. But thats my preference, some people prefer buffet, where you can get up and eat until you are stuffed.

Also, just as a tip, alot of people will tell you that buffet is much cheaper, this is not always true. At our venue, buffet is the most expensive option, sit-down is the budget meal. I think this is because with sit down they know an exact number of meals and with buffet you have to compensate for extra helpings and such. So dont go in thinking that buffet will definitely be easier on your wallet, this may not be true.

It depends how fancy of a wedding you are planning. If it is a small wedding and is a black tie event, then sit-down is better. If you are having 600 people like we are, a buffet is the only way to go. It also depends on how your hall is set up and how much room you have. I have been to both types of weddings and I will say that I prefer buffet much more, which is why we are going that route. But every couple is different.

i think that buffets are cheaper but less intimate because everyone at the tables will get up and sit down continuously throughout the night. Sit-down dinner is more formal and everyone at the table actually has time to have conversations but is more expensive. I think either or is fine, people are invited to a wedding should be able to serve themselves; it's probably better for the families with picky eaters.

If you are having a very formal wedding, than I think a sit down dinner would be best. However, the new trend is to have a buffet, so I don't think it would really matter. Plus, you can have a wider variety of food!

Well, it's really up to you and your budget. As I guest I MUCH prefer to have a sit down meal. Primarily, the quality of food is usually better at a sit down meal. Most caterers would never dream of serving some of the things they serve at a buffet for a sit down meal. I've seen wedding buffets where they were serving things like baked ziti and weird casseroles of unknown origin. Most places would NEVER serve that at a sit down meal. Second, there is nothing I hate more than trying to juggle a loaded plate while in a cocktail dress with high heels across a slippery dance floor. I think it shows your guests more consideration when you offer them a properly served sit down wedding dinner, but that's just me.

OK I DJ weddings and let me tell you! BUFFET!! the tables will be sent to the food stations about two at a time and pick the food they want. not a problem and the get the amount and food they want at that time. for a sit down meal you have to send out menus to your guests, then get them back to give the chef. then have place cards so the servers know where to bring the food. Then (it always happens) some one forgets what the ordered 4 months ago and complains their food is not right. and its hard to pick your meal in advance and enjoy it 4 to 6 months latter. so go buffet and use th money you save to have an open bar, Its worth it!

It is really up to you. Sit down dinners are usually a little more in cost than a buffet. Also with seated meals you will have to have a definite head count to assure that your guests are all fed vs. gathering an estimate for a buffet.

Does it matter? no...not unless you are limited by budget.
I prefer buffet...especially if you're having children attend (maybe you're not) Also it gives people more choice, any vegetarians coming? Also if the RSVP system fails you, it would be nice to say to someone the day before the wedding...hey, it's all right..I'd still love for you to make it.
