dont worry 5-10 days the swelling will subside. Ask the dentist for pain killers in the meantime... You need to wait till the antibiotic reduces the swelling around the tooth to extract it.. but u dont have to suffer in pain.. get pain killers!!! I have been where u are... load up on some tylenol w codine... it will be used for a short time cuz once the tooth is out.. Whoooo FReeedom!!! but meantime please take a pain reliever- dr can prescribe somethin good

The length of time can vary for the antibiotic can work, but make sure you take the entire amount that is prescribed for you. Your dentist probably won't try to pull the tooth until you've finished the entire prescription. Keep your mouth clean, rinse often, and take a Tylenol or something for the pain. As hard as it is, you don't want to rush the dental work, because if it's done too soon, you could be in even more pain later. Good luck!

The amoxicillin will not clear up the infection. It will help slow down the infection. The source of the infection is your tooth, and unless the necrotic pulp is taken out (root canal) or the tooth is extracted you will have a tooth infection. Ask your dentist if he could offer you conscious sedation or if he could provide you with nitrous oxide therapy. This will help with your anxiety and will allow the dentist to adequately anesthetize you.
