My parents donated their bodies to The Baylor School of Medicine for research purposes. After the School was finished they cremated both bodies and sent me the ashes - no cost.

Yes. This happens all the time actually. A lot of times a family does not have the money to bury someone so they never claim the body from the morgue. At that pt, the city has to pick up the claim and they person is usually buried in a city owned cemetery at no cost to the family. NOTE: the family loses all rights to any ceremonial, etc...

Since you posted your question again, I'll post my answer again:
Well...you could donate your body to science - but I can tell you that many medical schools to which you can donate do charge a fee. The one in which I work charges $100 I believe - and that's to cover multiple costs such as retrieving the body, all paperwork tied to the whole deal (sounds like there's a lot), cremation of the body, delivery of your remains to your family, etc. But, each medical school varies, some don't charge a thing...you may want to look at the websites of various medical schools and find out what their policies are. I guess if you want to go totally free, you can just go wonder off somewhere like an animal does when it wants to do. And not all medical schools charge - out of the 6 in Ohio only 2 do (I think), but you have to look at the medical school near you.

Donation might work, there are always med students and research facilities looking for corpses - some are more picky about their condition though.
Otherwise, just find a really high cliff by the ocean, have someone carefully tie some sturdy rope to your legs, and attach the other end to something heavy, some cinder blocks or something, and heave-ho. The fish will dine on your eyeballs.
Meanwhile, if you are actually a veteran, you might want to talk to the veterans administration to see if they can give you a hand(probably not too likely with Dubya overloading them with all of the amps and other injured).
Good luck to you.

Contact the VA, you're a veteran and should be respected as such.
I come from a LONG line of soldiers, you sound bit upset, if you feel like talking, drop me a line. Some of us truly respect what you've done for us.

You may wish to consider donation to a body farm - places where they study how human body decomposes in a natural environment - there's so much we still don't know about natural decomposition, and I think it's a nicer way to benefit science than having some hungover student sticking their hand up my deceased backside and using me as a ventriloquist dummy (it happens).

Donate your body to medical research. No cost and it helps others. Ask the VA, VFW, or American Legion to handle your arrangements. Possibly the VA could arrange for you to be buried at sea from a military aircraft or ship.

should we know something?!? Are you planning your own murder?!? : )
Probably donating your body to science would be the cheapest. But then you have people poking around your insides after your gone and putting you on display in museums to show us what dead people look like inside.
Body worlds is on display in the Dallas Museum and it's sick!!
