It all depends on the State you are in. In some States, the plates stay with the car, while other States, the plates stay with the owner. You need to check with the DOT/DMV/Tax Assessor, or what ever the department is within your state that handles these.

That would depend on what state you live in. Some states have the plates stay with the car and some they go with the owner and the buyer has to get his own plates.

I recently purchased a car from a private owner (in Texas). The plates were left on. I took them off and took them down with me when I transfered title. They took the original plates and they gave me new ones.

It depends on the state your in. I know in Ca. the plate goes with the car. But in PA the new owner supplies or buys a new plate. Check w/your local title/notary.

It depends on the state you live in, some require that the plates be turned in, and then you would go get new ones. Contact your local DMV, or licensing agency.
