As far as I can tell, no US Army units have ever been based in Upper Heyford .

There is a RAF Base at Upper Heyford that had USAF Units based there in the 1950's.

7509th Air Base Group was based at Upper Heyford .

It serviced transit aircraft from the 93rd Bomb Wing, 97th Air Refueling Squadron, 509th Air Refueling Squadron, 301st Bomb Wing, 8th Air Sea Rescue Squadron, 2nd Bomb Wing, 5th Bomb Wing Detachment, and the 22nd Bomb Wing.

Then in 1951 it was changed to the 3918th Strategic Wing.

In 1966 the 66th Tactical Reconnaissance Wing was based at Upper Heyford .

In 1970 the 20th Tactical Fighter Wing was based at Upper Heyford .

The last American Unit withdrew from the base in 1994 and control was returned to Britian.
