I am very nervous about getting a numb shot because I have three cavities. So I have asked around and some people told me I will need a shot and some said I don't. Does anyone know for sure?

I've always needed one, and I just got done filling quite a few cavities. If you're nervous about the shot, ask your dentist to use a topical anesthetic, that'll numb the area so that you won't even feel the shot. Good luck!

It is different w/ each dentist. It depends on how deep the cavities are. With having 3 i will say that all dentists will. Talk to your dentist about this fear that you have. There are different types of injections if you have sensitivities or allergens to something. Then there is also gas. In my opinion, the shot is not that bad. 7 HEY__you know before they give you the injection, they wipe on a local that numbs you, like a REAL strong ambesol, like you put on a sore tooth, or you use on babies. You will be fine! It happensa ll the time. Just choose a dentist that is recommended by friend or family, & is up to date with equipment. Again talk about your hesitations. YOU WILL BE FINE!

There are two ways to fill a cavity. The most common way is to drill out the decay, creating the need for the shot.

A newer technique that most dentists do not yet use, is a type of sandblasting, where they blast the decay out and then fill it. This method will not require shots.

Do not be afraid of the shot. It usually goes in the fleshy area of your cheek between the upper and lower teeth. I personally don't think it hurts at all. It is a rather odd feeling. More of a pressure than pain. Don't be afraid.

They will absolutely will numb you for a cavity. Trust me, you do not want to not have anesthesia for a filling. It is not fun. Shots are quick. Don't be nervous. Dentist inject 10-15 patients a day. And ask your dentist if he provides conscious sedation or nitrous oxide therapy. That will ease your anxiety about your procedures. Hope this helps.

It depends on where the cavity is located. If it's close to the nerve, get the shot, if not, then it's optional... only if you can take a little pain.

It's completely optional, but it's recommended. I wouldn't want the pain from the drilling. Don't be nervous about the shot, it only pinches for about two seconds. You'll be glad you got it, trust me.

Yes, you will need an injection......there might be a chance you can say you would rather not have one, but that depends on the dentist.
