Welcome to my world. I have 2 Siberian Huskies that spend alot of time in the house, and they pretty well nap wherever they please. They are extremely spoiled, and even when they are laying around and are awake, they both refuse to move out of the way. When I am vacuuming, one of my dogs actually has to be nudged a couple of times with the vacuum (while the vacuum is running) before she will get up and move. My husband and I have just learned to either step over them, or walk around them.

wrong question. Why do you always want to walk where he's sleeping?

PS: My dog is laying in the doorway to this room as we type and the cat will come and tell me when it's time for me to go to bed. Go figure.

It is the protection thing.

Your dog probably just wants to be around you all the time. My dog does the same thing, she lays down right in the middle of the floor where I need to be. They are "pack" animals, therefore they need to be near you. I imagine they learn our routines and where we walk the most, so they figure that's the best way to be around us.

Because that's his way of protecting you in case anyone else tries to walk that path that's not suppose to.

It's to protect you and also to know when you're coming and going. My dog follows me around all day and lays nearby wherever I am. They just like to be near you.

He/She always knows when you're taking a walk. My mutt sleeps
with her fanny on my foot when I'm sitting inside, -- she always
knows when I'm going to do something, and she's always there.
