I'm back, I tried defragment, Ad-Aware SE, Spy Ware, Nortin Anti Virus, and a disk cleanup, Went through shared folders, I wanted to back up my files but my computer dosen't have the programs and I would have to use a external hard drive.
I did put a new hard drive in this past spring and have 89% free space. My daughter uses Yahoo Messenger and when I log on the page comes up, I don't use it at all plus the folder is empty. AND she uses that AIM. I really don't want to do a restore point, If were to insert my XP CD would it find the problem and fix it? OR should I do a RegScubXP and if I do what will that do? Can anyone think of anything else? SH--! I can't think of anything else.... Maybe You can. Thanks!

You lose everything, of course. Save what you want first.

Who gave me a thumbs down, it's true ye idiot!
Who wants a piece of me?!!?

You will usually have to format (erase everything on) the hard drive in order to reinstall Windows XP. What I would do is either buy a USB Hard Drive from a local store (e.g. Best Buy, Staples...) and back up any files you want to keep onto it, then reinstall windows and tell it to format. You could also back up files to an email account or something. Gmail works great because you have plenty of storage. If you need help reinstalling windows I can help with that too.

If you want to format and reinstall then you will loose all data and programs. Better to copy them on cd/dvds. And see to it that you have installation files or cds of all the programs you need. Copy all files from My Documents folder as well. Make a copy of your favourites saved in the browser. After that you can begin installation. Read the following article carefully to understand how reinstallation takes place. And of course you will need windows installation disk. And the setup disk from your internet service provider. Note down the process of how to get a new internet connection on a newly installed windows. Either you need to have installation disk, internet connection's username , password if any, name of your ISP etc etc.

If you re-installed (just stick the CD in and install) you would keep all your data, and it would potentially fix any errors in the setup that have occured.

Of course, scandisk, defragment should be done first. And possible try running a registry repair program (many free ones out there) to see if this fixes the problem first.

You can't uninstall XP. Try a repair first. Put your xp disk in the CD drive and type in the Run box:

sfc /scannow

and click OK. It'll run for a while and look for problems.

Yep. you can backup the data using the backup utility (just make sure you don't delete the backup). It's availabling in the start ment -> programs -> accessories.

I would regularly backup your files anyway.

Have you tried defragmentation, which (arranges & compresses all files to creat more space) or adding more RAM?
