I and my finace are going to get married in this May. This is first marriage for both of us. Is there any special issue about the color of a wedding gown that I need to concern? Is ivory an appropriate color for a first marriage couple?
I have tried several gowns: white or ivory. Both of us like an ivory one the best. That is a strapless satin A-line gown featuring a cascading side drape with a flower at waist and a sweep train. The flower and drap are in champagne. We do like the contrast of ivory and champagne. It is very elegant and classy. So, we ordered that gown in ivory although they do have white one available. However, now I am worrying if that color is an appropriate choice since I noticed some people would suggest second marriage brides to wear off white/ivory wedding dress. Could somebody please help me? Thank you so much.

there is no rule about color. Queen Victoria is generally credited with having started the white wedding dress craze.
In Victorian times, a woman who could afford an expensive white dress for a one-off occasion was thought to be at the top of her social tree.
Because delicate garments were near impossible to keep clean, a wedding dress could be worn just the once and only people with a lot of money could afford to purchase one.
"It was a clear indication you were a wealthy women and that you were marrying into wealth," Dr Summers told Annie.
Prior to Queen Victoria women used to wear every day clothes for the wedding ceremony with a white veil and Orange Blossom to indicate the significance of the event.
It was after World War II the white wedding dress became an indication of a woman's virtue.
Dr Summers said she believes the reason the tradition of the white wedding dress has survived, is due to the lack of romance and excitement in a woman's life.

Who is the "we" who likes the dress? Did you take your fiance wedding gown shopping with you?
It's all a matter of preference. I see more women today who wear ivory instead of white. It all depends on what looks good on you!
Also, the tradition of wearing a white gown does not stem from the idea of being "pure" and "virginal." White used to symbolize joy--that's all it meant. Being joyful. You can be just as joyful in ivory as you can in white!
Personally I'm wearing ivory (although it looks like more of a muted white) because I thought that looked prettiest on me in the dress I chose. If i had found a white white dress, I would have worn white.
Some brides are now going for color like pink or red if that suits them.
The bottom line is that the wedding is about you, your fiance and what makes you two happy. If you want ivory, then who's to stop you?

I think that it is a great color. I am getting married for the first time March 10 and I have an ivory dress.

I'm wearing ivory for my wedding in April...I have never been married before, but I've been living with my fiance for two years. I chose the color because it compliments my skin tone much better than white. Don't let what other people think run your wedding day. As long as you feel beautiful, you have picked the right dress.

The color doesn't really matter, but white is common just because it's traditional...I wore ivory when I got married though because I didn't like that white was also symbolic of "virginal" and I wasn't one...I didn't allow any white in my wedding at all. âº
A wedding is YOUR day...you can (seriously) wear whatever color or outfit you want to wear...there are no rules âº

That's an age old question. It is tradition for first-time wives to wear white, it being a symbol of innocence and purity, while second-time wives should wear off white or ivory symbolizing a second chance at regaining a pure marriage. If you are comfortable with your choice of dress, than I really wouldn't worry about. It's your wedding day! The dress is everything, but happiness is forever!

Well, you've already broken with tradition by allowing your fiance to see your dress before the wedding day, so why not have a different color as well?
White is considered to be "pure" and "virginal." Therefore, wearing a white dress is supposed to represent your innocence before your wedding night. I met someone who wore red and black for her first wedding. (She also walked down the aisle to music from "Star Wars" so...)
There was once a tradition of brides getting married while in the nude, or just her underwear. (She was usually behind a closed door.) This was meant as being "married in her shrift on the King's highway." That was to guarantee that her husband was not responsible for his bride's pre-marriage debts or obligations.

There are no right and wrong colors to a wedding a dress. It's your day and you can wear purple or black as long as it makes you happy. By the way your dress sounds gorgeous!!

The color doesn't matter... For my wedding, I wore Ivory, because it looked better with my skin tone...
