Christians in the first century A.D. began meeting together on Sundays to break bread (eat a fellowship meal) and worship. Fish was a commonly available food in the Mediterranean world, so I suppose it was commonly consumed among other available dishes. Insofar as Christians had disposable income, they gave to the church and to the needy.
