You can definatly find a mixed breed to adopt rather than pay into someones scam. $350 is the price you would pay for a purebred. I am a serious advocate for adopting homeless pets rather than buying one from a "puppy mill" Try the website www.petfinders.org all you have to do is enter your zipcode and choose a dominant breed, I bet you can find a yorkie/chihuahua mix in a shelter and pay a third of the price! You would also be making a homeless dog very very grateful!

Take $350 cash with you but keep $150 of it in your car. If you really like the puppy, say that it is more than you want to pay for an unregistered dog, but that you have $200 cash on you. They probably will accept unless they are snobs. If, for some reason, they decline, ask how much they would accept. You might at least save SOMETHING doing it that way. If you really want the pup, and they won't bend, you have the comfort of knowing the extra amount is back in your car. Just don't go crazy talking about how good the puppy is. Down play it. This is how I would do it, since I prefer purebreds and I can get a mixed breed at the pound for cheeper. GOOD LUCK!!

Yes that is too much if u want a mixed breed go to a animal rescue IF u do decide to get it make sure both the mother and the father have had all health clearances before you get it otherwise you are MORE likely to end up with all of the health problems of a Yorkie and a chihuahua. Anyone that breeds 2 pure dogs together is not a good breeder anyways and prob. breeding for the wrong reasons like they think they are cute not to better the breed.

It depends how much you want the dog, if it's cute and looks more like a chihuahua than a yorkie then it might be worth it for you as pure breed chihuahuas are so much more expensive. I have a chihuahua cross with pomeranian and paid 200GBP which is about the same amount and was lucky to get the last one as they sold like hotcakes! She's worth every penny!

At one time these dogs were mutts and went for minimal price, perhaps to offset health costs and shots.

Now they are sold as overpriced designer dogs with a cute name like... a chirkie... or a yohuahua... for that dubious distinction you pay a lot of money and do not know the health of your beastie.

I know about this, we breed very large standard poodle for love of the breed.

If you want a mutt, the shelters have lots of lovely animals who are sent there for no fault of their own. Sometimes it takes several visits but then you get to know the people there and they will watch for a dog that will suit your needs.

If you have no children, older dogs are in dire need of homes and make wonderful pets.

It seems a lot unless the pup has had it's shots and been checked by a vet. Beware if you are buying at a pet store or over the internet. Puppies on the internet can be pet store rejects. A reputable breeder wants to know who they are selling their precious puppies to--not just anyone who happens to have the money. Rescue organizations sometimes have puppies including mixed breeds or "designer" dogs. You can search online for an organization in your area. I love when breeders advertise how much the pups will weigh when they get older - because it's STUPID to do it! There's no way to tell for sure how much a dog will weigh when it gets older, a guesstimate is about all they can tell. I do think $350 for a mutt is way too much to spend, around here you get mixed breed dogs for nothing!

Save your money. Go to a shelter or look in our local paper. Shelters barely survive off he adoption fees, and people are always giving away puppies, especially mixed breed. For $350 you could get a pure bred with papers.

If I liked small dogs I would be willing to give $100 for this dog. The amount would cover the cost of puppy shots, worming, and vet check health certificates. It would also leave enough extra money for the idiot who created these mutts to get his/her female spayed. Its fools like the breeder of these pups that cause overcrowding in local shelters.

why don't you google chihuahua rescue or rather a shelter to adopt instead of buying a dog? So many dogs die each year and you might find what you want there. They need homes and will be so grateful to you for adopting them.
