Someone states that she hates someone else. Why?

Isn't there a few Biblical principles, like love and such?

I'm just curious, I don't want to become a Christian. I'm comfortable being an atheist.

Thanks!@

"Is hatred a sin and the moral equivalent of murder? "
Hate can be sinful, it depends what the hate is focused on and how it's applied. Yes, it can be an equivalent to murder in God's eyes, but there are some cases where God would concur with the hatred-- often called "righteous anger ".

"If so, why do some people do it? "
If you are referring to hate that is not based in truth, it is done because we are all sinners. All of us. It's in our nature to do wrong, and we do it.

"Isn't there a few Biblical principles, like love and such?"
Yes, there are. They are goals for us to reach for, IF we care enough to apply them.

"I'm just curious, I don't want to become a Christian. I'm comfortable being an atheist."
That is a definition of someone we shouldn't bring the Gospel to. Someone who does not desire to come to God. The desire comes from God to those he wants in the kingdom. If that's what you are, then I will try to remember not to get into that kind of conversation with you on.

Unfortunately, the bible, Jesus and Christianity are filled with hate and disdain--usually reserved for those who don't agree with the stated belief system, but virulent and violent nonetheless.

If you work through all of it rationally, there is a 3 to 1 ratio of negative to positive messages, and the overall message indicates that only a 'remnant' of humans (and no other inhabitants of the planet here, including animals, plants, rocks, etc.) will be 'saved' or rewarded for loyalty to the dogma.

Quite depressing.

Actually Sean, yes, hatred is equal to murder, Andy is correct in his answer, see Matthew chapter 5. I am in the middle of discussing this issue on my blog as a matter of fact.
And no, Christians are not called to anyONE, just to hate sin and unrighteousness. Personally I do not hate anyone.

Love you!

Well, some people sin for two reasons. 1) They don't realize it until after they have done it. or 2) Because they don't care. There are bible principles about loving others, and things like that, but some people just choose not to follow it.

Yes hatred or anger with your brother or sister without cause is a sin. Jesus states that this soul sickness is the moral equivalent of killing, or murder. in Mat 5.

Resentments/hatred and lack of forgiveness in people are the number one offenders, and causes of mental and physical illness in the person harboring the hate.

Yes. Jesus said to hate someone is equivalent to murder in your heart. We are to walk in love - including loving our enemies. People generally hate because 1) they aren't saved and 2) they don't understand fully what it MEANS to walk in love. Love is a choice, not a feeling. It is perfectly ok to hate a behavior, but not a person. Love the sinner & pray for them, but hate the sin.

You really can't take that particular answerer seriously.

For other "haters", we hate in others what we hate in ourselves. Only when we live in negativity can we support such negative thoughts.

Hatred is reserved by me for someone who actually deserves it. I don't hate just because it is fun...Someone has to earn the right to be hated by me. Just because I hate them doesn't mean I'll murder them. But I am not going to show love to someone who has hurt me or my family, they deserve to be hated!

A sin against god, no.

A "sin" against yourself, and perhaps even the other person, yes.

But sometimes it's fun. And sometimes it's difficult to avoid and we all have our weak moments. Pity parties are often very popular if not well-attended.

The moral equivalent of murder? That's laughable.
