You could if you were a stupid ranking officer. The Air Force pilot would quickly realize that the army troops were better qualified to get them out of the mess they were in, but the ranking officer would indeed be the official in charge.

The real answer to this question is "NO". In theater, this pilot has no command authority over these ground troops no matter what his rank his. If this Air Farce flyboy has a brain cell in his head, he wouldn't want to take command anyways. He would know he was out of his element and would defer command to the senior non-com of this platoon or squad.

Legally yes, but if a person has the practicality and intelligence to be a pilot he would, perforce, also realize that the ground troops were in the advantage. He would not want to "Command them around" as you say, whatever that means.

Yes you can take command. However, under certain circumstances, you may not want to. It would the mission of the Army troops that would come first. You may have to take command.

You would be the superior officer, and would be treated with the respect due an officer, but you could not order them to abandon their mission since you are not in their chain of command. At that point, unless they were under orders to maintain radio silence, they would radio for instructions from their chain of command on how to proceed.
This is assuming they were not there to rescue your flyboy butt. Either way, you'd better listen to the men w/ experience in land warfare.

The short answer is yes. Now, if you were an electronics tech and came upon a bunch of ground fighters who knew what they were doing, would you try to order them around??? There is common sense used in these situations.

In theory yes, but if he was shot down in enemy territory, he would most likely be meeting up with a team of Spec Ops, most likely led by a Senior Non-Commisioned Officer.
After just being shot down, not to mention being out of his element in Escape and Evasion and ground combat tactics...any Officer worth his salt is going to listen (and ceede command to) the NCO in charge of his extraction team.
If it is in fact the extraction team sent in to retrieve him (as opposed to just a random meeting of two parties in the jungle) the officer has NO command authority. the command authority would rest with the extraction team leader

He could, but if he was reasonable he would quickly realize that he was in a situation in which the army guys have the expertise. Moreover, he would only have general authority over them, not command authority.
