I started a low carb diet yesterday. After over a month of a low fat/low calorie diet (1100-1200 calories), I decided to try low carb for a week or 2 to lose some weight. On my other diet, I only lost a few pounds of water weight. I'm 5' 2" (female) and about 130 pounds. I know I have some weight to lose, so I'm not sure why it won't come off! I'm hoping this diet will work, because I was probably eating a great deal of carbs, since I was eating low fat cereal, bread, etc.
Any suggestions on things to eat? I miss my fruit! Are there any fruits I can eat? I have very little energy and I'm very cranky...

honey dew and cataloupe melons are fairly low in carbs.. half a cup is like 3 carbs... 1/2 cup of strawberries is 5 carbs...try some splenda or cool whip if you feel the need for desserts...also... it gets easier. I have been low carbing it.. with some cheats for about 2 years. I lost 140 pounds on it.. The first 2 weeks suck because you go into what is called a "carb crash" Your body craves it and you become irritable and yucky feeling. Keep going. It does get better! Try eating baby spinach with your salad or as a base. It is very high in nutrients and you can eat tons of it. Fruits to definitely avoid are bananas and oranges. You can eat apricots and plums.. they have like 3-5 carbs in them. If it is a berry half a cup usually has about that much in them also. Good luck!!!

This diet works for some people. You'll notice weight loss at the beginning, like any other diet, as it's most likely water weight.

Your body need some bad carbs to burn right away if you're going to be doing some exersicing. I'd suggest cardio (speed up metabolism). Do light weight with 8-10 reps for lifting. You'll should definately notice a change. Don't push the weights (weight wise) or cardio as it will only build muscle mass. You don't want this if you're trying to loose weight.

"Bad carbs" (simple) are foods like white bread, white rice, pasta and all typical junk food high in sugar. (some fruits high in sugar are not considered a good carb!)

"Good carbs" (complex) on the other hand are foods such as oatmeal, whole wheat bread, brown rice, and other whole grains.

I've attached a web link at the bottom. It's great for keeping track of carbs and includes alot of helpful hints. Try it out.

I'm following Dr. Mark Stengler's advice on low carb diet. He suggests "eat all the lean meat, chicken, turkey, and sea food you want for 14 days." No refined carbs: bread, pasta, rice, baked goods, candy, or alcohol. Avoid fruits and root vegetables during 14 day phase. Eat all you want of other vegetables. Eat mono- and polyunsaturated oils (olive, canola), which satisfy and reduce food cravings. Eat nuts, but limit amounts cause they are high in calories. He suggests six small rather than three large meals. Must eat breakfast to keep metabolism higher. Result will be weight loss and reduced cravings for carbs and normalized glucose levels. After two weeks add limited complex carbs but avoid white foods (white breads, potatoes, pastas) and highly refined foods. Eat foods high in fiber content (whole-grain). Good luck!

OK Blueberries are a must they are way up there on the antioxidant chain and they give energy. also almonds are good as well as figs. There are other fruits out ther that are great, these are only a few of my fav's. You should try exercising that would be a great way to burn the fat and and you not totally going crazy with the "NOcarbs". Moderation is the key to success. Cardio would be best. Try Naked Fruit Juice Brands they have a wide variety of juice blends that are all natural and good for dieting. find a health food store and try to shop smart:)

The extremelylow calorie diet probably caused som ketosis, which will make you feel really blah, particularly in the mornings. You need to get up and walk around to get the blood circulation up, drink lots of water, and in general, high fiber foods are usually low in carbs ( and help control cholesterol as well ). You can eat some fresh fuits, like apples, but stay away from canned fruits ( and read those labels!!)

There´s a difference between good carbs and bad carbs. White flour products become fat quickly whereas whole grain products and natural carbs like fruit are good for you and can be processed and burned off easier. So keep eating fruits, and veggies too! They will give you energy and much needed vitamins.

You sound just like me! I just started the Suzanne Sommers diet called "Sommersize" yesterday and so far I feel great. I am hoping that others will let me know how their results were though. Anyway, my co-worker went on it and she's lost 30 lbs! So, I am hoping to lose about 20! Here's the website, it is really pretty easy and she and I have tons of energy!

You will want to go with some proteins like a handful of nuts like almonds or cashews. They have good fat in them. Dairy will be high in protein, too. I take low fat or fat free cottage chz, and dice up a bunch of veggies (tomatoes, cucumbers, green peppers, green onions, etc), and mix in. Or yogurt or hard chz is good, as well as peanut butter. Try a boiled egg. Good luck
