I have been friends with this guy for about 2 and a half years. I've liked him for most of that time. Well yesterday, my birthday, I asked him out for dinner. He said he couldn't because he was meeting his friend. So I said could we go later in the week if need be. He said he couldn't because of our "work situation". Which is fine, but I'm leaving that place in july because my contract is up then. He basically said he wasnt interested because of our big age difference. (I'm 27, hes 44). But its not really about a romantic thing, its I really like him as a friend and I was hoping that even if we never got together romantically, we could still be friends since we've gotten so close. How should I talk to him about this? I am really shy and it took me alot to ask him to dinner in the 1st place. How should I go about this. Im new to the dating world after being in a really long relationship so don't knock me.

I just saw him in the hall and he started talking to me like nothing ever happened. Whats up with that?

I spotted the problem already, You are going to be leaving that is why he is probably losing interest as he is preparing for your departure. It is a little rude to turn you down for your b-day dinner. He probably is doing this to create a shield to protect his emotions when you finally do leave.

Its hard leaving and if you must leave, let the knot untie, gracefully as he has already began to do.

PS as a good hearted guy, we like to have you woman all to our selves in your case he is losing you in July. Does he live alone? If you really like him move in with him.

Good luck,

RD

Since it's just about spending some good times with a friend, you have to talk to him frankly about it.
to make things clear, because he might misunderstood the situation and thought you are asking him out for a date.
So you'd better tell him the truth.

BUT, if you really want it to be a date, i think the guy replied you politely with a good manner of saying NO!

Move on, why would you want to work so hard for someone to notice you? You should be with someone who can't stand to be away from you, not someone you have to beg to work into their schedual!
