Usually when people tell you to be yourself, it tends to be people that know you. In other words you don't have to pretend or be someone/something your not when your with them.

A stranger will always find something wrong with you. No matter how tall, short, fat, skinny, rich, poor, etc....There is always someone criticizing something about you. I accept the fact that I can't please everyone. It takes too much energy trying anyway.

Telling you to be yourself is something that everyone just always says. The sad truth to it is that most people want everyone to act the way they want them to instead of appreciating people for who they are. Personally, I don't care what people are like as long as they are themselves. I've had several friends that most other people couldn't stand because they were harshly honest or just down right b*tchy. I love it though because I can always count on them to be blunt with me, and they can count on me to never let them give me crap. It's funny but there's a real balance to having people around you that are just like you or the opposite of you. The main key is to really be yourself and just find people that you can be yourself with. Anyone that is a true friend won't judge you, but will only encourage you to always be you and try to help you strengthen your faults.

That is just part of their ignorance, and its unfortunate. People should think, before they speak.
