If you are talking about the hood, there is a safety catch on it, that has to be released to fully open the hood. If you are talking about your trunk, then the cylinders that support it may have lost some of their push and would need to be replaced.

Pull the bonnet catch, to open the bonnet, it will open about 1 inch, go to the front and under the bonnet to the drivers side you will find a safety catch which is meant to hold the bonnet down whilst in motion, release the catch and lift the bonnet.

Your key shouldn't have anything to do with the bonnet opening. Inside the car there is a lever you operate for the bonnet which will release it, then go to front of car lift the edge of the bonnet and feel around underneath it for a catch. Operate that catch and lift the bonnet up.

Had the same problem on a C Max needed to have all the mechanism replaced ,done on warranty

you turn your key one way and the bonnet pops up then the other way to release it you keep your key turned and lift up
