Very good question. If God is all knowing and omnipotent, then one would assume it was an option created by God to allow Adam and Eve to eat of the tree of knowledge. Adam and Eve exercised their rights under Free Will to partake of the tree, thereby changing their destination. It was not a sin but an opportunity to acquire knowledge.

First off, God didn't put it there for Adam & Eve. God put it in the garden ,because of its beauty. Adam was instructed not to eat of it.. And God ,put his trust in man(Adam) to obey.It was eve who disobeyed Adam. Eve took it upon herself, to do it. Then she brought it back to Adam. Think about it. It was, Eve who prepared, his food or meals. And not knowing what eve did, he thought it was just another fruit from the garden. Since no one really knows how many fruit trees were in the garden at the time. It would be hard to determine, which one she got the fruit from, if Adam didn't see her do it. Again, another mis-conception, of the bible. That people don't understand. Let me put it this way. If you(adam) was to go off to work, and left your wife(eve) to do whatever she does. and you give her (eve)a certain instruction as not what to do . And she goes off, and starts talking to someone. she(eve) has no knowledge of why they are there. or she goes to some place strange to her, or sees something strange , not knowing what to do. Then someone says" You like what you see? You can take it, its ok. it won't hurt you none. So she(eve) takes it home(lets say if was eatable for arguments sake) fixes her spouse, or what have you, something to eat, and says here, take a bite of this,i found it at a market. I(eve)had one its good. So without question, because he trust her, he does as she ask. Now, supposing what he ate, he was allergic to, or would cause him to die. Then who's fault would it be?

See, what people fail to realize is that although God posseses the ABILITY to predict the future, that does not automatically mean that he willingly plans or discerns every event in advance. God created Adam and Eve and gave them specific instructions as a test. He allowed them to demonstrate there sincere love and obedience by following a simple command. They chose not to do so, even though they had both been informed in advance of the consequences.

God gave us free will. To choose between Him and the Enemy. If He had made Adam and Eve to "not eat the fruit", He would have been violating their free will. God warned them not to eat it, but the enemy (in the form of a snake) told them that it was okay. So they had a choice to eat it or not, and they choose to. He created the tree to give them the choice, obviously, they didn't have much knowledge and chose to eat it the fruit.

Heres the answer from the manuscripts:
(and yet if i tried to teach it in any number of the churches of today, I'd be thrown out on my butt)
In the Garden ,the tree of life is Christ. The tree of the knowledge of good/evil is satan himself. Eve did not eat fruit; she was beguiled by satan (wholly seduced). She had sex with him. This is why so many people don't believe in God - He's painted as someone who will throw you in hell for eating a piece of fruit.
When Eve did this, and Adam participated,they made what with figleaves to hid their shame?
was it a mask to cover their mouths? No, it was an apron to cover their private parts.
God told Eve He would multiply her conceptions; strange punishment for someone who ate fruit, isn't it? Well, He did multiply them;
by 2, exactly. She was pregnant with twins;
one pregnancy of two separate fathers. Abel was Adams son; Cain was satans son. Both brought their offerings to God at the exact same time, because they came to the age of accountability at the same time: twins.
If ya have a problem with Cain not being Adams son, look at Genesis 5:1, where the entire geneology of Adam is listed: you won't find Cain listed there, because Cain simply was not Adams son. What Eve did was a whole lot more serious than eating a piece of fruit.
Why did satan do this? Because this was his first attempt (in the flesh age) to pollute the pure line of lineage, that down thru the generations through Eve, womb-to-womb, would come the Christ child.
This also would explain why Cain and Abel fought so bitterly. Anyway, Cain was thrown out of the Garden, and a mark was placed on him - the mark of his father, satan. Ever hear of the "mark of the beast"? This is its beginning, right here on Cain. Cain had lots of decendants, called "kenites", meaning "sons of Cain". These kenites even made it thru Noahs flood, and you will find them alive and well and doing scribe-work for Judah in 1chronicles 2:55; and they are on the earth today.
The story of Adam and Eve is one of the most important ones in Scripture, and yet people get told lies about it being an apple. Its no wonder most people don't really understand what they are reading in Scripture. If you start out with a lie, you won't get the rest of it.
Think about this; can you see that this rabbit hole goes way deeper than people realize........

He didn't want them to eat it.. If you remember he tested Abraham. He wouldn't have had to test him if he already new what he was going to do. He wants people who are going to serve him because they love him and want to serve him.He has rules and people should follow his rules not there own. So that was the reason behind the tree.. He gave them one tree that they couldn't eat off of.. ONE out of all the other trees.. It couldn't have been that tempting.. There is know talk of them wanting it until Satan got involved. So they didn't seem to be to curious until then..
I don't know about you. But I wouldn't want to have been created with out the free will to chose things for myself.
I hope this helps some if not the email me and I will try to help some more...

He couldn't have known that Adam and Eve would eat the fruit if he were never to have made the tree (and give them the opportunity to make that choice.)

It was a test regarding Free Will. They failed, and now we suffer. I really think the story of The Garden of Eden was meant to be read as an example of human weakness in comparison to God. Its just that most Christians take it so literal.

yeah!! Oh yeah!! Thanks for asking this. So God surely did not need the tree, since He possesses already the whole knowledge, and no one else was supposed to eat from the tree, so what was the tree doing there anyway? ...And who was the first tempter, actually?... And also, how exactly were Adam&Eve supposed to know that doing a forbidden thing is *bad* since they had not eaten from the fruit yet, so they had no idea about good and bad?...
edit: free will here, free will there - what exactely is the purpose of my free will if I can't tell right from wrong? What were Adam & Eve supposed to do with their free will since they hadn't aquired (yet - grins the devil) the knowledge of good vs bad choices?

It's called a TEST. A test of their obedience and loyalty. A test that they would acknowledge their creator's rightful authority over them.
The fact is that they could have been curious without actually eating the fruit in question. I can admit to once or twice being CURIOUS about robbing a bank and having all that money to spend. The point is that I didn't act on that curiosity.
Do you have children? A roommate perhaps. Have you ever pointed to something in the refrigerator or a space in your home and declared it off limits? Maybe your child or roommate would not have even been aware of it. Were you wrong to issue the warning?
