I am starting a website about UK television programs and channels and would like to be able to capture screenshots of them. Could anyone guide me as to what the legal side is??? It would be a pain to have to go to every channel i wanted (many) and ask all of their permissions

Technically it's illegal, it's a breach of copyright law. Technically it's illegal to record tv programmes onto your VCR/DVD recorders as well. However it's unenforced at such a low level. The most they may do is require you to remove the pictures from the site.

No, it breaces copyright. The legal owners of the pictures is the TV company. Write to them and ask if they give permission for screen shots on a web site you are planning. most have said it is ok to my friends web site, but you do not own the images you plkan to use. You can be sued for breach of copyright!

i'm afraid it would be a breach of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. the main good way of doing it would be to touch each and each channel and ask for their permission. i be attentive to it somewhat is a soreness, besides the undeniable fact that it ought to grant up them from taking you to court docket. quite if it somewhat is an internet site which you're probable to learn out of.

You're still better off asking them, they might even supply some screenshots of logos etc.
