3 laps a day? thats barely a warm up.

you should be doing at least 4 miles a day, with a longer run on weekends.

that is not enough.

You need to be running at least 6 miles a day, if you want to be a serious cross country runner. Once you are accustomed to six miles a day, then you need to hit the track, doing speed interval work, like sets of 400 meters and 200 meters.
