do people with braids/cornrows/dreadlocks really go days-weeks-months without washing their hair???

if that's true, that's nasty! no wonder they smell. if i had a choice to either get braids and not wash my hair for a month, i would not get braids.

seriously tho, how can someone go a month without washing their hair? more-less a few days? are they have a different technique of somehow cleaning their heads? i would think you would get lice like that.

why are some of the black people getting offended with this question? i didn't even mention "black" in my question. white people can have braids, cornrows, and dreadlocks too.

You can wash your hair and your scalp when you have braids or cornrows. Dreadlocks are the hardest to wash because your hair is locked and tangled and water or soap usually makes the hair less easier to hold in that position.

Though it sounds disgusting these are very popular hairstyles. But, YES there are ways to clean both braids and dreadlocks so that they dont smell without ruining the hairstyle.

Like others have already said black people don't have to wash their hair everyday, so washing your hair once a month because of braids won't do anything or produce anything in a black person's hair. We also don't get lice because we use grease in our hair and that kills lice. Since white people have a different texture they do have to wash it everyday or will get lice and look all oily and nasty. I understand that you didn't know but you shouldn't be so quick to just before you get an answer.

Yes it's true a friend of mine in order 2 get it done 2 his hair had 2 go 1 month prior 2 getting it done without washing his hair then he told me another 6wks after it was done not 2 wash his hair I don't know why but there was no smell 2 him at all.Hope this answers your ?

Black people do not have to wash their hair everyday. We all produce oils in our hair. These oils are good for black peoples hair, no matter what style. Too much oil build up is bad so regular washing is good one a week or maybe one every two weeks depending upon your hair. but, because of these oils we are way less likely to get lice. Do not be so quick to judge because it is the opinion of most that white people are so nasty that they have to wash their hair everyday, and when white people get wet they smell like wild coyotes.

As part of good hygiene braids can (and should) be washed on a regular basis with diluted shampoo or special sprays and shampoos forumulated for braids. If braids are allowed to dry properly their should be no mildewy smell.

it's ok for black people (that kind of hair, I mean) to go without hair washing for up to two weeks, so this whole thing's no big deal. I've heard that dreads, though, are the real headache!

not trying to be funny or mean or anything like that but us black people have a different type of texture hair and that is why some of us not all dont wash there hair everyday or every other day like whites and too it drys our hair out were for the whites need for there hair to be dry and not greesy but most blacks hair have to be greesy for it to shine were whites dont and you can wash your hair with braids in it if u are a white person of couse you wouldn't understand
