Do good guys need god?

Not impying that religious folk are bad, just why should people with nothing to feel guilty about - feel guilty?

Good according to whose's standards? It is easy to take whatever it is that you are already doing anyway, and declare your actions to be "moral" according to your own rationalization. Everyone is "moral" and "good" according to their own self serving standards. Even Al Capone and Adolph Hitler thought that they were good people, since they thought that they were simply giving the public what it wanted. Without an objective standard, then how would you even know if you were morally bankrupt or not?

If you try to please everyone, you will go crazy, and you will get exploited. If you please only yourself, that is easy, but ultimately selfish. Who gets to decide if your actions are moral or not? You cannot judge yourself, because you are a biased observer. You will almost always take your own side, but other people who know you might not agree that your actions were really all that moral (and they don't know your motives, so their information is incomplete).

And don't tell me that atheists always do good for its own sake. Most people do good, irregardless of their religious beliefs, because they are trying to be liked and admired -- either by their own self, or others.

According to Jesus and Paul, only God is perfectly good; everyone else has sins of some sort that needs to be forgiven.

No need at all. If you are a moral person, then you already have everything you need to continue being a good guy.

Those who claim that people need God to be moral are immoral themselves. They cannot comprehend being good for the sake of being good, so they *need* the threat of God to keep them on the straight and narrow. But those who are already on the straight and narrow do so without the need for a god.

People already knew that murder was a bad thing before the Ten Commandments told them. While the Ten Commandments were a handy reminder, they didn't redefine morality.

Well you see god made Adam and Eve, gave them enough consciousness to understand a snake, and not enough reason not to betray his trust. A snake said hey eat this and they were like OK. God got mad and not all descendants of those people are born as a part of that original sin. God make people imperfect to begin with, gets angry at them for doing something he consided imperfect, and now we all suffer. Now all humans are guilty of that sin. Can't you see the love..... I have found on my spiritual journey that it is easy to feel guilt needlessly about things that we can't change and hide our true failings behind all sorts of rationalization.
