While we dutifully sort out our supermarkets waste ( most of the packaging etc profits them), we might pause to watch ads on tv for outside heaters, bigger cars, cheaper flights, the latest this & the latest that. I share your pessimism,I think the government pay lip service to envoiromental concerns, but when they do take it seriously it`ll be a lot worse because they will completly f*** up.
I am no eco hero, but I cycle to work and only use my `small` car 2 or 3 times a week. Thats the theory, but maybe i`m just jealous of higher rollers? -----------I don`t think so.

You don't have to ban cars in theory or in practice - change the fuel used - hydrogen, electricity, bio-diesel, LPG, ethanol, peddle power, solar - Branson has commited $4billion (?) over 10 tens to developing new jet engine fuel from plant matter - why not do the same for cars? With the exception of just two all of the above could be used and would make small (but cumulatively a large) contribution to reducing emissions. However, pricing for roads will force many off the roads - car pooling, public transport, there are many ways to approach this, and so it can be tackled: question is do we have the stomach for it?

There's no way that would happen in one quick transition. It would take years and it would have to come as an obvious necessity. I would gladly give mine up if I had a viable alternative that offered me comprable freedom. I've been living in Switzerland for the last 2 years and I haven't needed a car, so I don't have one. That wasn't an option in the US, or at least in the greater Seattle Met. area. A bus anywhere took hours, and trains were out of the question. Besides, do your research and you'll see that all the ''scientists'' were in agreement in the 70's that the earth was cooling and a good portion of the worlds population was going to die any year because of crop shortages due to global cooling.

I've paid for my car and the right to use it on the highway. Having said that how do you think politicians will get around if cars are banned? Is it possible that they would make an exception for themselves?
Seriously though if you want to affect greenhouse gas emissions then you have to get rid of the following:
All Motor vehicles (incl Cars,Trucks, Aircraft, Shipping, Diesel Trains), All Oil & Gas powered Electricity generators and Industry and Cows. You can't run Electrically operated Trains unless the electricity from Power Stations that are NOT Gas or Oil fired.
Welcome to the Middle Ages.

Global warming is happening on Mars, Jupiter and Saturn, as well as Triton, Neptune's Moon, Global Warming is a natural occurrence, it is happening because the Sun is getting hotter, not because of Human activity. There is nothing that can be done about it.
