What do you think?

Would God test you for patience and doesn't this defeat the purpose of the object somewhat?

I KNOW from personal experience that your grandmother was right! God tests us in many areas if we are serious about developing a relationship with Him, because that is how we become stronger, more mature Christians. (He also tests us when He wants to use us for something, and sometimes that means bringing us down so far that we realize that all we truly have is HIM.) Trust me, if you pray for patience, you WILL be tested in that area until you have passed the test! I have a lot more patience than I used to have, but I certainly haven't mastered the skill. (But you better believe I'm not PRAYING for patience anymore! I just take it as it comes!)

Your grandmother was right in a sense. Romans 5:1-3 says that tribulation produces patience. Yikes, but it is true that trouble should cause you to mature and grow in character. Patience produces experience and experience produces hope.

Be careful what you pray for.

My mother said she prayed for patience and God gave her 5 children.

God bless,

The Bible says that "Tribulation workith Patience" It is in Struggle that our patience is developed.

YES....Grandma was right. All the testimonies Ive heard were true likewise. My own experiences of asking the LORD to help me refine an area of my own life; HE will sanctify us!

Be careful what you pray for, and know that you are ready when you pray for it.

Its true.

I think your grandma was onto something, there.

Praying is a palliative. As many rosaries as I've said in my life, I didn't develop anything!

Take up knitting. It has helped me develop excellent patience, a steady, positive attitude, and lots of good friends with whom I share patterns and fun.

Praying rather shows impatience, don't you think? I often hear that God will do what he will in his own time, so there is no point in praying, and it shows that you are not willing to wait for whatever is going to happen to happen.
