First off - I respect those people who strongly believe that the Bible was a gift given by God, it is your right to decided whether or not it is the true word of God.
Presonally, however, I like to look at the Bible as a history book. (In school I had to study it front to back - learned a lot of interesting things). I don't think there is another book that so clearly indicates what life was like in those times. It is a well preserved history book.

Look up all the statements (about 20 or so) in the bible that support and even demand the institution of slavery.
I agree that the bible has been and incredibly influential book. But how can you have a good book that claims to be the first and last word on morality that supports slavery?
Please explain this to me.

It is hands down the most violent book ever written. And yes, it's been influential, especially the parts that say it's okay to have slaves, that non-believers should be massacred, loose women should be stoned, and making war on your neighbors is okay if god says you should. All those things still happen in the name of the Bible. What a gift!

The bible contradicts itself. The bible cannot be verified. The bible has been re-translated countless times over the centuries. The content of the bible was taken from other texts and fables of the time. The books of the bible were chosen by man, not God.

On the reliability of the Bible being crucial, is that most people do not want there sins to be known, and would rather think that if they haven't killed someone they could not possibly go to hell. The Bible is hard for them to digest because it shines a light on there life. People want the lime light not the true spiritual light which shows them there wrong. They don't like being told there wrong.

The bible was written by men who desired control. The stories are fabricated to begin with. Then other men altered and twisted what little truth was left. The long list of translations and human authors have contributed to the many contradictions and lies found therein.

I'd agree it's the most influential book to man.
But only because it has caused more conflict, damage, evil, and war than anything else on the planet.

I agree,
1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good. (Psalm 14:1)

When we compare scripture with scripture....and eyewitness accounts....and the fact that it never contradicts itself....then it has to be the God-breathed Word that we know it to be.
Not to mention the secular writings of proof as well......
