I woke up with my ear hurting, and I figure I'll just take some medicine for now and if it doesn't get better I'll go see my M.D.

What over-the-counter medicines work best for an ear ache?

Ibuprofen should help you with the pain but think of going to the doctor to get checked out. If its an infection, you will need antibiotics.

This is an old folk remedy. Boil an onion and peel it until you've got the center part that is just big enough to wedge in your ear. Put it in your ear while it is still warm from being boiled. Let it sit there until cold. It's supposed to work.

Middle ear infections are usually painful and can become very serious if left untreated, which may result in permanent hearing loss. You need to consult a doctor immediately.

Similisan has worked great for both me and my 4 yr old son. You can get it at any CVS, Walgreens, Longs, Target, etc.

Usually one prescribed works for me... no over the counter will

heat oil & try putting in your ear with the help of cotton.it works.

If you know anyone who is nursing, breastmilk works great.
